FAQ for Actors

What should I do if I’m new to Common Casting?
We highly recommend that you attend the Common Casting info session at the beginning of the semester to gather more information about the process and have any questions answered. Sign up for our newsletter to ensure you don’t miss this event.

How do I audition for shows?
Auditions for HRDC shows take place through Common Casting. Visit the Common Casting page to learn more.

Who can audition for HRDC shows?
Any Harvard undergraduate can audition, no previous theater experience is necessary. Under very specific circumstances, actors that are not Harvard undergraduates may be cast in HRDC shows. If you think this may apply to you, please have your prospective director contact their HRDC liaison.

Can I audition for every show?
Each show auditions individually during Common Casting so you may audition for as many or as few shows as you would like.

Do I have to be at auditions 6pm-Midnight every day?
Auditions will run from 6pm-Midnight every night of the audition period with different shows holding auditions for three hour slots (6pm-9pm or 9pm-midnight) at our different Common Casting locations. During the audition slot, you will sign up in the lobby of the given audition location (to save time create an HRDC account in advance here), and will soon be called for your 10-20 minute audition. Please note that the final call for actors is 20 minutes before the end of the audition slot.

Where are auditions?
Auditions are typically held in our theatrical spaces on campus such as the Loeb Drama Center, Farkas Hall, and Agassiz House. Locations for each audition slot will be announced in advance of Common Casting.

Who can I contact for more information?
