About the HRDC

Founded in 1908 as the Harvard Dramatic Club, the Harvard-Radcliffe Dramatic Club is an umbrella organization for campus theater at Harvard College. The HRDC directly oversees two student productions on the Loeb Mainstage each semester and about four or five productions in the Loeb Ex, a blackbox space. Additionally, the HRDC organizes Common Casting, Backstage Week, and numerous other events, including panels, master classes, and formals. It also works to connect students to the professionals at the nationally regarded American Repertory Theater, with whom the HRDC shares the Loeb Drama Center.

The Harvard-Radcliffe Modern Dance Company presents Anthology! Running November 1 & 2 in the Loeb Ex. Poetry challenges the traditional form of writing, just like how dance in the “modern” sense frees dancers from a defined glossary of motions. Compared to a play, a dance performance oftentimes comes with a bit more ambiguity in its interpretation. A poem, compared to prose, takes on the interpretation that is evoked in the reader. People experience dance through how their body reacts to someone else’s movements. In a way, it is the anthology of our company; a literal body of work in which poetry is incorporated into movement, and movement into poetry. We will explore concepts related to life, death, dreams, work, nature, beauty, love and everything in between.
