The Little Years follows Kate—a 14-year-old with a gift for mathematics, physics, and philosophy—as she grows up. Her brother, William, is the star of the family—a poetic genius who overshadows Kate. He is rewarded for his genius. Kate is punished. She is routinely laughed out of scientific circles. She is forced into a more palatable mold, forced to exist in a smaller and smaller space.

This show pushes back on the idea that we have moved past a specific moment in time when there were widespread examples of institutional misogyny (e.g. the 1950s). In light of today’s political events, this play is a call for women of this generation to keep pushing.

Please note: This show deals with themes of mental illness, namely depression and suicide, and will also feature the use of strobe lights. Act I of the show also involves some extended periods of standing. If this is not possible for you, please email [email protected]. We will happily make accommodations for you.
