The HERO never chose to be a hero, regardless, s/he must face his/her fate: a break up that takes fifteen years, a right-hand man who keeps turning into a dog, and a country on the brink of chaos…all the while never leaving the bed.

The Card Index is a devised, very free adaptation of the generation-defining Polish playwright Tadeusz Różewicz’s original absurdist play. Full of juicy characters like the reluctant HERO, the impassioned Elders, and did-we-mention-the-(wo)man-who-turns-into-a-dog, our production asks the questions of imposed identity and how we can find hope without romanticizing reality. Together, we will develop what it means to be an (anti)-Hero today, infusing current and personal challenges of the modern world to the original play’s dizzying, chaotic magic.
