ABOUT THE SHOW

Fifty years. Two plays. One house.
BlackCAST and HRDC are proud to collaboratively present A Raisin in the Sun and Clybourne Park, two plays about dreams, community, and race. Raisin, which will be presented as a reading, tells the story of an African American family in 1959 wishing to move to an all-white suburb. Clybourne, which will be a full-scale production, shows us the perspective of the couple selling the house to the family in Raisin. In its second act, Clybourne skips ahead 50 years to 2009, when a white family wants to buy the house as the surrounding neighborhood is beginning to gentrify. Though these plays were written half a century apart, they are very much in dialogue with each other. Together, they offer a brutally honest portrayal of racial relations in the United States.
