For Designers

The following pages offer information for anyone designing sets, lights, costumes, props, or sound at Harvard. If your show has special technical requirements – if you need a makeup designer, projections artist, wig designer – please do not hesitate to contact any member of the board with questions, particularly the Technical Liaison at [email protected]

At Harvard, designers generally also play the role of technicians: our lighting designers are generally also responsible for the duties of the Master Electrician for their shows, and our costume designers are generally also our wardrobe managers. However, it is completely reasonable – and encouraged – to divide these responsibilities among a team of two or more people. You may decide to give different responsibilities to different individuals (have one person design the light plot, and another responsible for hang and focus, for example) or may decide to share responsibilities among all team members.

Please reach out to the HRDC Technical Liaison if you are a first-time designer or a returning designer with any questions. He or she will be happy to answer any questions you might have and to put you in contact with an experienced designer in your field.

The information on the next pages is general to all (or most) Harvard shows. Please be sure that you are aware of any special requirements for your space. Be in touch with your production team and your space’s technical advisor early on!

Have fun, and good luck!
